Craft Beer Reads

October 13, 2018

Ahhh, October! Some of my favorite things come this time of year: chilly mornings, brilliant colored leaves, and autumnal ales. It is a perfect time to curl up under a blanket and catch up on the craft beer scene. Enjoy.

Are we done with prohibition in Maryland? Read BrewedinMaryland’s Task Force to Study Maryland Alcohol Regulation: Round #1 as well as WTF, MD; and think again.

I’m a big fan of Oskar Blue’s Old Chub but learn more about this Longmont, Colorado brewer in 12 things you should know about Oskar Blues.

For those of you who read this blog (all 12 of you), you know I’m excited about the opening of Sapwood Cellars. Don’t just take my word for this terrific brewery; read DC Beer’s A Visit to Sapwood Cellars. BTW, co-owner of Sapwood, Michael Tonsmeire, has a close connection to the San Diego brewery, Modern Times — he actually worked there for a while and developed some of their recipes. Modern Times beers have just arrived in Maryland. They will be available at 3 locations in the state: Frisco Tap House, Allview Liquors, and Perfect Pour. As Allview’s Justin Jarvis notes, this will be Modern Times only drop in Maryland this year, so you should seize the opportunity now.

I love maps and beer, so MAPPED & RANKED: THE STATES WITH THE MOST CRAFT BREWERIES IN 2017  caught my eye. Remember, the per capita map is, in my view, a more relevant map, so don’t forget to scroll down to the second map. Note: Maryland is in the bottom category, having less than 2.0 breweries per 100,000 adults 21 or over.

Beer and health have been on my mind during the past few weeks. It has been another successful week on the Beer Diet for me – I dropped another pound. In another health-related piece, VinePair offers The One Thing You Should be Drinking to Prevent a ColdSpoiler: it’s wine, but Guinness Stout just might be a good alternative.

Cheers!

Warren
