Headed Home 4 Halloween

After a week in Ocean City, we watched the sunrise, then loaded up the car and headed home. On the way, we wandered over to Rehoboth, Delaware for a Halloween lunch and a beer at Dogfish Head.

Due to Covid, they have curbside pick-up as well as reduced seating inside and out. Despite the blustery weather, we decided to sit outside. We were bundled up in our winter coats but were surprised to see some brave servers in short sleeve shirts – brrr! Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats located right on Rehoboth Avenue in Rehoboth, Delaware is a craft beer lover’s dream with great food and service along with an outstanding list of craft beers.

They offer the well-known Dogfish Head brews like 60, 90 & 120 Minutes, Namaste, SeaQuench, and Slightly Mighty, but while at the source, I tried a few brewed right at the brewpub. First, I enjoyed a hazy English-style pale ale, Walking Run. It’s advertised as having a “rush of citrus and tropical hop aroma and flavor” with “flaked oats for a pillowy, soft malt flavor.” I’m not sure about pillowy, but the oats did give it a creamy mouthfeel. But I really didn’t get the citrus or tropical hop aroma. Perhaps it was due to the 49 ℉ weather? A nice, well-made beer but it will not be a repeat choice for me. My Untappd comment: “I’m outside, it’s 49 degrees. Good beer in the wrong environment.”

Full disclosure, I am a ginger hound, in almost all forms. So naturally, I selected as my second beer the Scorcher Selector, a Jamaican-inspired export stout with Demerara Sugar and Tonga Ginger. (I’m not sure what either of those last things is.) It was a creamy and roasty beer with a hint of ginger – kinda weird.

Dogfish Head brewpub is where this “hall of fame” brewery got its start. If you are in southern Delaware or Ocean City, this place is a must.

Cheers!
