Straffe Hendrik Brugs Quadrupel

I sought refuge at my friend Brent’s, who lives down the street, while Mrs. Adventures held ladies night at our house. My gift of the evening was a bomber of Straffe Hendrik Brugs Quadrupel from the Brouwerij De Halve Maan.

Jim joined us with a new board game in hand, Ticket to Ride. We watched Maryland beat Ohio State while we read the instructions. Perhaps it was the distracting basketball game but we missed a few key nuances of Ticket to Ride’s rules and played our own special version of this interesting game.

During a break, we cracked open Straffee Hendrik, an outstanding quadrupel brewed in Bruges. My untappd notes describe it as, “Thin bodied like a brown with caramel, coffee and a bit of cherry. Zesty carbonation with a nose of licorice. Great beer!”

Both Brent and I have actually visited De Halve Maan (The Half Moon) brewery in Bruges and Jim will be headed there this spring. The brewery brews their beer outside the city walls and pipes it into the brewery.
