3 Christmas Beers from the Rare Beer Club

12 Drummers Drumming

Okay, I must admit, I’m not the most disciplined guy on the planet. A ridiculous example might be, on a lazy post-Christmas afternoon, devouring an entire bag of almond M&Ms in one sitting. Just a hypothetical example, of course.

Or perhaps I would receive a valuable blend of a Belgian-style quad and Old Ale from the renowned brewery, The Bruery from Placentia, California. Maybe this mythical beer is the final beer of the decade-long Christmas series, 12 Drummers Drumming. And, instead of showing restraint, discipline and self-control by cellaring this amazing 12% limited-release ale which is only brewed once, I opened it on Christmas Day. I “cellared” this ale nearly 2 whole weeks.

In my defense, this beer was incredible; a delicious blend of 2 beer styles I enjoy with reckless abandon – Belgian quads and Old Ales. Also, I had several readily available, willing volunteers to share this very big beer. It was yummy. It was smooth and thick. And it was dark and dangerous. The Old Ale style added caramel, brown sugar and malt-forward flavors, blended with boozy bourbon notes, while the quad offered some holiday spices like cinnamon and ginger along with dark fruits like figs and raisins. Wow! This 1 pint and 9.4 fl oz. bottle is meant to be shared and enjoyed among many friends.

Cheers!

Warren

  1. I can relate to the discipline issue. Too bad this experience will only reinforce that negative behavior. Sounds amazing.
