Elf Madness

It’s officially winter! I know this because the jolly elf has come down from the north.

And by “the north”, I mean Hershey, Pennsylvania, and the jolly elf is, of course, Mad Elf of Troëgs.

Wednesday night was Mad Elf Pint Night at Frisco Tap House. Most of the table celebrated the beginning of the winter holiday season with a 10-oz pour of this harbinger of winter. Ruby red in color, this seasonal Belgian strong ale has distinct honey and cherry flavors. Every year tastes a bit different. This year leaned a bit toward the more medicinal cherry flavors than past years. It is, as always, a sipping Belgian Ale that warms on the way down. A nice way to welcome in the season with friends.

The evening topics of discussion included the “on a roll” Ravens, TV shows and gardening. As for gardening, we learned that french fries may be in short supply this winter, as discussed in As storms wreak havoc on potato harvest, shortages and price hikes could follow from the Washington Post. Our Maine potato expert, DBear, is skeptical. As for me, I plan to chow down on french fries whenever possible, just in case.

Cheers!
