Philly Beer Week

Happy Beer Year 2018

Happy New Year! I am the perpetual optimist and looking forward to 2019. However, there is one day left to cherish in 2018. So, let’s look back on this year and all its highlights.

At the beginning of 2018, I was wrapping up my postings about the Maryland Brewery tours. Of the 55 Brewers Association of Maryland breweries, I visited 52 in 2017. You can read about the whole insane project by clicking on Reflecting on 2017.

It was not all roses in 2018. I witnessed the disastrous hearings of House Bill 518 where Peter Franchot’s Reform on Tap bill never made it out of committee. It was, IMHO, democracy at its worst. Another even more tragic event was the Ellicott City flood. Enough doom and gloom, let’s move on to the good stuff.

There were lot’s of fun craft beer events this year. There was Love Thy Beer, the Maryland Craft Beer Festival (in Frederick), Punktoberfest and our 5th Philly Beer Week – another great time in Philadelphia. Of course, it’s not really a festival but the 3rd Annual Columbia Pub Crawl was extreme fun in extreme weather.

As for breweries, Guinness and Sapwood Cellars both opened and I finally made it to that much talked about Frederick brewery, Attaboy.

On a personal note, I won another cooler, submitted my first guest blog, was honored with an honorable mention for this blog, lost some weight on the beer diet, celebrated my birthday by making a beer – Brian’s Gift – with Brian, celebrated Jim’s 100th beer at Frisco, and watched the Raven’s win the division! Also, my niece, Cara, married a great guy, Alex, and the whole family celebrated the event in Houston.

Besides Philly, I enjoyed a few journeys out of state, including:

What’s in store for 2019? I’m hoping for less rain and less stuff. In fact, 7 friends and I will be doing the minimalist game, where we throw one thing away on the first of January, two things away on January 2nd, three things away on January 3rd, etc. Also, I look forward to making a few beers with family members. Finally, Mrs. Adventures and I are headed to the Bahamas to celebrate the success of the Beer Diet.

Happy New Year! Cheers!

Warren
