Council Pint Night

Columbia, MD August 29th, 2018

This Wednesday, it’s Council Pint Night at Frisco Tap House. Of Frisco’s 50+ beers on tap, 10 are from Council Brewing Co.

Just like future Columbia brewery, Sapwood Cellars, Council specializes in both sours and IPAs. Tonight’s list includes:

  • America’s Finest Pale
  • Beatitude Cherry Tart Saison
  • Beatitude Mango Saison
  • Broken Wand with Boysenberries
  • Hazing Cane IPA
  • Nicene Saison
  • Pineapple Tart Saison
  • Questionable Advice IPA
  • Royal Blood DIPA
  • Woofle Dust Apricot.

As the Columbia Pint Night gang wandered in, we started off with some tart Saisons, all cloudy with fruit. The sour flavors overpowered the fruit, offering puckering delicious drinks. I tried the Woofle Dust Apricot (a  wild ale), while dBear had the Cherry Tart Saison and Pierce, the Mango Saison. I have never tasted Saisons as sour as these ales.

Later, I tasted the Broken Wand with Boysenberries, finding it the star of the night. I enjoyed its more subtle tartness with a fruity, almost raspberry sweetness.

I wrapped the night up with a dessert of creme brulee paired with Southern Tier’s Cherry Cordial.  This sweet beer tasting of rich dark chocolate blended with notes of cherry and a powerful cherry nose went well with the creamy, sweet dessert. This New York brewer has done it again; making an impossible-sounding beer both delicious and exactly what the name suggests.  Southern Tier is well-known for their in-your-face, well-made beers, such as Pumpking, Choklat, and Creme Brulee Stout, to name a few. Z, add Cherry Cordial to your list of must-try beers.

Cheers!
