Frisco, Bike2Work & Beer Reads

Another great week of beer adventures: Boulevard Pint night at Frisco; Bike to Work started at the Whole Foods parking lot, ending at Clyde’s for dinner; plus I cracked open one of my new homebrews. Also, I’ve included a few “Beer Reads” to enjoy on this rainy Saturday. We had a small crew show at Frisco Tap House for Boulevard Pint Night, just 5. But we covered all the Boulevard beers and I got a sip of each one:

  • Bourbon Barrel Quad – spectacular and complex. Lots of alcohol at 11.2% but smooth with vanilla notes
  • Hibiscus Gose – fruity and tart with a hint of salt
  • Jam Band Berry Ale – sort of a berry soda, a deliciously sweet berry beer, very drinkable.
  • Tank 7 Farmhouse – Boulevard’s “house” beer. Peppery and delicious
  • Snow & Tell – a Scotch Ale in the Wee Heavy Style. Nice caramel taste but very thin bodied.

We talked about the upcoming Philly Beer Week trip (we’ll wear our Frisco T-shirts on Friday) and Keith told us about his great trip to Richmond – The Answer is a must when in Richmond. Sadly, no one in our group held the winning ticket for the electric guitar giveaway.

Brian & I made a Saison beer. I showed my usual impatience and tasted one just 6 days after bottling. It’s a little maltier than I wanted and weakly carbonated. If this beer was human it would be a teenager. I’ll have to give it another week or so to fully mature.

I biked to Howard County’s Bike to Work at Whole Foods and spent most of the day putzing around on my bike. The day ended eating outside at Clyde’s along Columbia’s lakefront.  I enjoyed a strawberry spinach salad with a Burley Oak Homegrown (a juicy session IPA at 4%). What a great day!

Beer Reads

Thanks to John for sending an article about Columbia’s newest restaurant, Cured and another about some hyper-local beers including Milkhouse Brewery.

Alert reader, Jack, shared the story of a craft beer sellout.

Hey, Father’s Day is coming up. Here’s the perfect gift.

Cheers!
