Beer Musings

Winter is here! I’ve put my garden to bed and I’m ready for some delicious winter brews. Cuddle up in a warm spot and take a little time to catch up on what’s going on in the craft beer world.

Tomorrow I’ll watch the Ravens battle the Lions at M&T Bank Stadium. I’ve found an article in honor of the ticket provider and lover of stouts — Everything You Need to Know About Milk Stout, and 7 to Try. Two of my favorites are covered – Left Hand and Moo Hoo.

The Washington Post reports on the Maryland Comptroller’s proposed legislation in Untapped potential: Craft brewers say Maryland laws constrict their industry. I found Del. Derick Davis’ false analogy demeaning. He compared raising taproom limits to raising a child’s allowance. A more accurate analogy compares limiting beer sales to limiting any other product, say cordless drills. I say raise the limits so breweries can plan and invest for growth.

Cool Material tells us about some up-and-coming breweries in 8 Breweries to Watch in 2018.

Around Town

Wesley Case of the Baltimore Sun reports on 2 Baltimore County breweries teaming up with Guinness, Heavy Seas collaborate on two beers.

Hysteria Brewing is teaming up with the Howard County Library for Books on Tap – a monthly book club. I’m already booked on Dec. 6th but would love to attend.

Inspired by our 2nd Annual Columbia Pub Crawl, Keith of Frisco Tap House has organized the first Industry Columbia Pub Crawl for Monday. Their route is a little different, starting at BJ’s, then the Ale House, Pub Dog, the Green Turtle, Frisco and Sonoma’s.

On a personal note, I have a brewery tour road trip planned for next week. We’ll hit 6 breweries in southern Maryland over 2 days. This is part of the MD Brewery Challenge of 2017. Cheers!
