Philly Beer Day 2

Rittenhouse

Today is the gang’s second day at Philly Beer Week for 2017. We are pleasantly surprised that our AirBnB comfortably fits all 8 of us. Plus, it is in Rittenhouse, just 2 blocks from the beautiful Rittenhouse Square Park and near lots of our favorite spots.

We needed to recharge after our first day of beer related events. We headed to the hipster spot, Plenty Cafe, for a little morning nourishment. I ordered the Avocado Toast that they tell me is a very hipster thing. It hit the spot!

Although the Plenty Cafe served terrific food in a charming place, we will always remember it for John’s near sidewalk fall into their cellar. John was engrossed in Plenty’s beer list while walking along Spruce the evening before.  Not noticing the open cellar door, he would have taken a tumble if not for a saving shove from Laura. Without Laura’s push, it would have look something like this lady’s fall.

We headed to one our favorite beer bars, Brü. Two breweries had reps milling around the floor, MIA and Coppertail Brewery. Their extensive beer list is impressive. We watched sports, ate wurst, drank beer, and talked to the beer reps.

Our next stop, Finn McCool’s, is another Philly favorite. This Irish beer bar has a great beer selection plus lots of TVs. We hoped to watch the USA vs. Ireland rugby game. USA was manhandled by Ireland but the atmosphere at Finn McCool’s made up for it. Our server, Heather, is an award-winning Guinness server who hand drew a shamrock on our Guinness pours.

Also, Mark enjoyed an entire liter of Yuengling. Finn McCool’s no longer serves beer in the 2-liter boots. I guess Paul’s legendary boot drank last year will remain a record in the Columbia Pint Night hall of fame.

We found a new spot – the Uptown Beer Garden. The weather cooled down, we all sat at a picnic table, had an Evo beer and played a little cornhole.

A few of us wrapped up the evening at The Foodery. It is an amazing package store, with an enormous beer fridge. You can purchase single beers or make your own 6-pack. We ordered beers from their taps and a few of us ordered some late night subs. A great end to a great day.

Cheers!

Warren
