Hysteria Grand Opening

I’m in the Lake Region of Maine about an hour out of Portland, so I missed Hysteria’s grand opening. However, Dbear was lucky enough to attend the festivities. He has kindly shared a few of his pictures and impressions. Sorry this is so late; apparently Maine has limited internet service.

Here is a brief summary of Dbear’s observations about Hysteria Brewing of Columbia, MD.

The Hysteria brewers have been brewing on their pilot system, 24-hours-a-day in preparation for their grand opening. Hysteria will close after the opening for a few days so that they can replenish their beer supplies. Rumors suggest a re-opening on the weekend of 15th. Most of their beer using Maris Otter for the base grain. Dbear found all their beers excellent, well-made with their signature taste. For the opening, many casks were coming out all afternoon, with some pretty cool additives to their base beers. They are still having BG&E issues.

Morning After w/Orange Peel & Vanilla Bean – Milk Stout – DBear’s favorite
Trash Panda w/whole leaf Simcoe, Mosaic & Citra – IPA – Also DBear’s favorite.
Great Gam Gam’s Rauchwine – Rauchbier – not too smoky, great with BBQ and I am not a smoke beer person, maybe becoming one.

As for features of the brewery, it was more spacious than Dbear imagined it would be inside. The parking lot beer garden for the opening weekend was a nice place to sit; the brewery was kind of cold under the vents. The electronic sign with a tap list and live feed from untappd was nice.

Also, the taproom offers games and a reading area. Unfortunately, they never took the tour, they were too busy talking to everyone.

Outside, there were 2 food trucks: Bullhead Pit Beef truck – I got pit beef sandwich, Mrs. Dbear got a pulled pork sandwich; KONA Ice – Schuman’s truck, did not make it to there. Howard County’s only distiller, Lost Ark Distilling, is right next door.
