Bryan wins raffle, an Ommegang poster

An Ommegang Night

We had a big crowd at Frisco Tap House for Brewery Ommegang Pint Night.  The Cooperstown, NY brewery is one of my favorites, making Belgian-style classics such as Hennepin, Three Philosophers, Ommegang (Abbey Ale) and Rare Vos. Also, one of Dbear’s coworkers, Bryan, was having his last pint night with us before moving back to Florida.

Oddly enough, none of the Ommegang beers I am familiar with were on tap. Instead, they had:

  • Fruition 5.2% Fruity Wheat Ale
  •  Game of Thrones Valar Dohaeris 9% Tripel, apparently very sweet
  • Pale Sour Ale 6.9%  This one is creating quite a buzz on the internet. Light, subtly tart with a fruity taste.
  • Rosetta Kriek, Cherry tart.
  • Short Sleave Saison 4.5% – A mild Farmhouse Ale, sort of a beginner’s Saison.

I also shared Frisco’s one and only cask – Heavy Seas Peg Leg. It’s a chocolaty, delicious imperial stout with a touch of roasty goodness – sweet and quaffable!

Oh yeah, I “won” another untappd badge – Verified Adventure (Level 11). I’m really not sure why or what it is, but here’s the screen shot. Yipee!

Somehow we had a discussion about James Bond and Mission Impossible. Did you know that the first James Bond was Sean Connery in Dr. NO? That is if you ignore the TV series from the ’50s. Harry Potter fan and superb server, Brooke kept us in drinks, while Keith presented Bryan with an Ommegang poster. Bryan had just said, “I never win anything.” and of course, won the raffle. The poster was too big to take on the plane, so we had our own raffle amongst the table. Z is now the proud owner of an Ommegang Three Philosophers poster.
